CAD DUCT provides the necessary tools to accurately detail & co-ordinate all types of Building Services Pipe work systems in a 3-Dimensional modeling environment.
The cross-discipline conformity of operation enables detailers to work in confidence and utilize the same insertion methods as for other services i.e. Auto-Fill, Auto-Attach, and Stretch & Cut-In.
Additional functionality further enhances the detailing of pipe systems for drainage & public health applications.

Fitting Libraries
CAD-Duct includes extensive libraries of pipe & fittings in common materials (mild steel, copper, cast iron, stainless, plastic, etc.) with a variety of end treatments (welded, flanged, screw & socket, couplings, compression joints, etc.) and all dimensioned to industry standard ‘OEM’ equipment ranges. All the items are based on fully parametric 3D solid objects for maximum flexibility and efficiency.
In addition to the pipe and fitting ranges, CAD-Duct also includes equipment libraries of valves, strainers, pumps, tanks, etc. |
 |
In all cases Users have the capability to create additional ‘OEM’ fitting & equipment ranges if required. This is achieved by linking CAD-Duct objects to a Product List containing relevant dimensional information as well as part codes, weight, cost, etc.

Services & Job Systems
Particularly applicable to the detailing of pipe systems are CAD-Duct’s Services and Job Systems features.
Services manage the insertion of objects and associated information onto specific layers within the model. At the same time this provides a simple method of isolating different pipe services and greatly simplifies the task of layer management for the user. Typical services include Heating, Chilled Water, Mains Cold Water and Boosted Hot Water.
Job Systems provide overall control of the selection of pipe & fitting types, size ranges and connectivity for the Services defined.
Specify the ‘Job System’ to be used and the program takes care of selecting the correct product according to size, material & connection.

Connector Matching
CAD-Duct continuously monitors the connection type or end treatment of mating items. In the event of the user attempting to join items with incompatible connections, the program warns the user and offers advice on correcting the situation. For example: When going from welded to grooved connections, the program detects a mismatch and changes the end treatments accordingly. |

Object Insertion with Cut-In command
To simplify the task of cutting runs into one another and inserting in-line equipment items, CAD-Duct provides the Cut-in function:
- Decide on the type of fitting or piece of equipment to insert.
- Select the main run & specify the angle of rotation for the part being inserted
- Set the insertion point using standard positioning methods.
- CAD-Duct inserts the object, automatically cuts the pipe to suit and matches connections.
This is also a great way for inserting pairs of flanges at pre-fab breakpoints following the definition of a pipe run.

Drainage & Waste Systems
Detailing pipe systems that run to a fall or gradient can be one of the trickier jobs that a co-ordinator has to perform, but not any more thanks to CAD-Duct.
Define the fall or gradient for the run and use the Auto-Fill function to route the system.
To join side runs or inlets into a main drain, use the Drop-Into-Fall function.
- Select the preferred ‘Y’ fitting to insert.
- Select the side run or inlet to connect to the main run.
- CAD-Duct automatically calculates the insertion point & rotation for the ‘Y’ fitting.
- The connection to the side run or inlet is made with pipe and an elbow as required.
